Team India is playing the first match of their tour to West Indies. Both teams are playing their first match after ICC world cup 2019. West Indies rather had a disappointing World Cup campaign but this series is their stronghold format of T20I. West Indies is a better T20 side than they are in longer formats of the game but we saw some more disappointing performances today continuing their poor run from the World Cup.
West Indies were put in to bat by Indian skipper after winning the toss. And things went sideways straight away for West Indies. John Campbell was caught by Krunal Pandya on the second delivery of Washington Sundar’s over. Navdeep Saini got two scalps. It was a slow performance from the host to start with but losing wickets at regular intervals was the biggest reason for this disappointing total. WI could only manage to get to 95 runs total of their 20 overs.
Out of 95 runs total 49 were scored by Kieron Pollard who stood at the crease till the last over but fell to Saini in the last over missing 50 runs milestone by 1 run. West Indies were over-cautious on a troublesome pitch but it was more of a poor shot selection than anything else. This has been the case with the Windies as their method or “Either hit or Block” isn’t working against better teams.
Team India is on top right now. Although Shikhar Dhawan got out early, however, This gigantic Indian Line up is looking composed now and are likely to get this small total of 95.
In response though India lost 6 wickets, the target was never a defendable one and some miracle performance was needed by West Indies to win this from here. In the end, India was comfortably over the line with 16 balls to spare here is the scorecard.
